Combine Google Docs With Joomla For A Sign Up Form

Print
If you are thinking of setting up a newsletter subscription form for Joomla, but are thinking about the cost and effectiveness then consider initially using Google Docs as a sign up form first.

Google Docs has the option to create a form and this form could be used as a sign up form, it will record the data and email the details to you instantly also if you want it.

The downside to using Google Docs would be that the recipient will not receive an opt in email and the form would have to be embedded into an email.  but since this is a form then there is no harm in using it for surveys, etc.  Since it is free and the data is served on Google you could potential use the form for thousands of recipients and it would not cost you anything at all!

Follow this link for instruction of creating the forms in Google Docs. Once you have created the form prior to closing down click the 'more action' but and copy the embed code then close it down. Within the frontend of Google Docs you will see the corresponding spreadsheet; open this up and choose share -> Set Notification Rules.  Select the 'A user submit a form' option.  Now if it is for an Newsletter, Survey or Poll, you may want the daily digest feature or if you want instant notification.

The code that is to be embedded is an iframe so you will need a module that will hold the code, for Joomla 1.5 you can download this module.

You may want to play about with the height and width from the embed code which looks like this:

<iframe src="http://spreadsheets.google.com/
embeddedform?key=pWQ7IO_AIe3CTN5x2GS0VMg"
width="310" height="130" frameborder="0" marginheight="0"
marginwidth="0">Loading...</iframe>

Thats it.

I think this is a great tool to be used for surveys and the cost effective way since it is FREE.

A fellow Internet marketeer just redirected me to register.com and a special prom link that will give you a domain name for the 1st year absolutely FREE.  So that's a nice gift to receive on a Friday, if your new to Joomla and web design; this may be the incentive to get you to try out development with Joomla 1.5.

You would need to use this Promo Link, just punch in the domain name of choice and click 'find it' once it finds the domain you will need to tick 'small business'.  On the next page it will show you that the cost is $0.00 for one year, however when you click to finalize the purchase you will need to remove Private Domain Registration which costs $10; you do this by simply clicking the 'remove' at the end of the sentence.

So hear is the link again, click here to get a FREE domain from register.com for 1 year. But hurry whilst offer lasts.

I wonder if any of you came across the SELanding page that I had created over at socioclick.com?  You may not have since most of the extensions there are dedicated to the Joomla 1.0v.  The extension essentially 'records' the keyword used in a search engine and displays this in when the visitor comes to the site, so you would see a message like this '...You came from Google looking for {keyword}, you maybe interested in the following posts....' thereafter it displays a list of articles available; it does utilise the search function within Joomla to find those articles by parsing the keyword.

I may not have mentioned this before but I am working on a something called 'Affiliate Marketeers Solution', it is will be a Joomla based system specific for those involved in affiliate marketing; without going into it with too much details here is one of the proposed extension:

'SELanding Content Keyword Dynamics'

Yes I know! bit of a mouthful.  This will be a component and a plugin, it will require extensive work from the site owner; but nevertheless be very fruitful.  The objective is to deliver the most specific keyword based article to the visitor that comes to the site.  It is a well known fact that those doing searches on the Search Engines are most attracted to those ads or search results that actually have the keyword that the searched for embedded in 1) The domain 2) the title 3) the 'meta data' or ad description and ultimately in the content that they are redirected to.

I have looked over at coding at www.prosper202.com and would like to combine it with SElanding Page.  What the coding at prosper202 proposes to do it display dynamic keywords on the fly, where ever the code <? echo $keyword?> is displayed the keyword that the visitor searched with will be displayed, and this will be spread across the entire content of a page if needed and other articles.  It is a lot of additional work for someone who writes the content, since they would be required to write up an article that will swap between keywords; ,et me give you an example:

'If you having difficulty with your {SEL:{default}dogs behaviour, Alsatian dogs behaviour, Alsatian house training} then you certainly need to be....'

In effect the writer needs to consider the combination of the keywords to be used, you may be reading this and thinking this is not relevant; but for an affiliate marketeer this is highly relevant.  To have the specific keyword in the content is GOLD, its what will compel the visitor to stay, read on, and potentially click the link to buy.

The component will allow you to huddle a group of keywords and then transfer one code as an ID i.e. {sel:id1} into the content, there will be a default keyword that will be displayed to those who visit the site from directly including spiders.
